Despite being a French varietal, this Syrah easily migrated to Italy’s Cortona region, from which this elegant and beautiful Smeriglio Syrah wine hails. The grapes were harvested in mid-September, then put into a still tank for 25 days for maceration and alcoholic fermentation. Malolactic fermentation occurred in French oak, aged in the barrels for a year and spent an additional six months in bottles to produce this beautiful offering that presents very earthy tones to the nose, including black pepper, coriander and notes of tobacco. The palate experiences a soft yet subtly spicy taste with hints of cherry and blackberry, as well as a thin line of grilled herbs. A signature characteristic of the Smeriglio Syrah is its long, lingering finish with peppery notes. It can be enjoyed now or be saved in your cellar for years.
Crimson red hue. Subtle nose with hints of characteristic spices like black pepper and coriander with undertones of tobacco and earth. The palate is soft, sweet and pleasantly saline with a supple fruit finish.
